Many have been waiting a long time for Bioware to release their first real MMO, and that day has finally arrived. Quite a few players have been playing the game since last week due to pre-ordering the game before release…including myself. It’s been a fun ride so far, and something I think I’ll end up playing alongside WoW.

The game isn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it does do some things right and intruduces some new concepts to the genre. Specifically, the unique Bioware storytelling which we have seen used in games such as Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Knights of the Old Republic. However, when jumping into the game for the first time it’s important to note that the game doesn’t have all the bells as whistles of World of Warcraft and probably won’t for some time. On top of that, the space battle system doesn’t have much depth and space in general is not open as one may expect.

My advice to someone starting up for the first time is to do a little research about what class and advance class you are interested in. Once you choose your advance class, there is no way to change it. Choose well. You can visit www.torhead.com to get more information on skills, talents, items, etc. just as you can with WoW.

Also, I want to point out that there is room to have more than one good MMO out there. For some reason, some players believe that in order for SWTOR to be good, WoW (and every other MMO) must fail, and that’s not how it works or should work. You can like WoW, RIFT, Final Fantasy XI, or Age of Conan and still enjoy The Old Republic. Play what you like and enjoy yourself, just remember to game responsibly.

See you guys in game.
